“The Great Break” (article)

In a newspaper article commemorating the twelfth anniversary of the October Revolution, Stalin decrees 1929 to be the “Year of the Great Break”  (год великого перелома) in which the USSR will proceed “full steam ahead” toward socialism. 

Over the course of the next several weeks the campaign to collectivize peasants’ landholdings kicks into high gear and production quotas for the First Five-Year Plan are revised upward.
